The Robins Way retreat

Architecture

13 MAR 2013

This house was a request from the owners to the Bates Masi Architects Design Studio, for a weekend retreat.  Images of objects and materials that they liked were brought together to create a new environment in the home, which allowed the architects to work on a project involving history and good taste, stimulating the new experiences that were possible.

The house was reduced to its skeleton, paving the way for large windows and glass doors. On the roof, the beams were retained and combined with natural ropes, adapted using weaving techniques. As the owner is a DJ, the acoustics in the house are very important. The rope helps maintain noise absorbing acoustics, allowing the music to be enjoyed at its best.
The combination of old objects with new provided the perfect place to escape the urban rush and rest on weekends.
